We haven’t actually checked to see if this is true, but we’re fairly certain that this is the first-ever all-local edition of the O’Dark 30 podcast. That’s right — both of the pieces featured on today’s pod were created right here in A-town. That feeling in your heart right now? That’s civic pride, my friends.
Up first is the latest installment of the semi-regular Portrait of an Artist series produced by KUT’s own Rebecca McInroy. This time around, Rebecca talks with her intern, Erin Randall, who’s not just an ordinary intern, but also an artist in her own right. The subject of their conversation is a short film Erin produced for KUT’s Storyboard Austin project (watch it here), which was itself a Portrait of an Artist piece focusing on local midwife Michele Fitzgerald. So, in an O’Dark first, we’re presenting an audio Portrait of an Artist piece about the making of a video Portrait of an Artist piece, which is pretty mindblowing stuff.
Then it’s an episode of KOOP’s “Innerviews,” featuring Abigail Mahnke’s discussion with the filmmakers behind”Better This World,” a documentary about the Texas Two. It’s pretty compelling stuff, and we’re happy to bring it to you.
