Paste Magazine called Austin’s David Ramirez “the best damn songwriter you don’t know yet.” He grew up in Houston, but his passion for songwriting brought him through Nashville and then on to Birmingham. Austin, however, seems like the perfect fit for Ramirez.

Ramirez wrote and recorded his latest EP, Strange Town, in Austin. And he’ll be showcasing the new tunes during his residency at arguably the best listening room in Austin, The Cactus Cafe, which begins tomorrow night. The show is free.

This recording of “Shoeboxes,” a song that appears on the new EP, was captured during a Texas Music Matters exclusive interview and performance last week.
