Blessing Barton Springs

April 13, 2011 1:22 pm by: Rebecca McInroy

On Thursday April 14th Austin will say goodbye to the six representatives from Gaden Shartse Monastery of India who have been visiting the city since April 4th. Over the course of their stay they made a Tibetan Sand Mandala at City Hall, conducted workshops, performed sacred dances and chants, and conducted a Sacred Earth and Healing Waters Blessing at Barton Springs pool with sand from the mandala they made. It was at Barton Springs that KUT employee Amy Chambless and her friend, photographer Craig Whisenhunt, caught up with the monks and they wanted to share a little about their experience.

We hope you enjoy this photofilm from the ceremony at Barton Springs. The chanting under the photos was recorded in KUT’s Studio 1A by Cliff Hargrove.
