Austin to Regulate Boarding Houses
The City of Austin is holding public hearings on new regulations for boarding homes for the elderly and disabled. In this week’s segment of “Changing Austin” KUT’s Emily Donahue speaks with Vincent Delisi of the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department.
In 2009, the Texas legislature passed House Bill 216. It directed the Health and Human Services Commission to develop model standards for the operation of private boarding homes for the elderly and/or disabled. The City of Austin has been studying the standards since August and is now seeking input from the public to establish a program on running such group homes.
There are three meetings scheduled: Tuesday, April 26th at the Manchaca Road Library, 5500 Manchaca Road. On Tuesday May 3rd at the Carver Library 1161 Angelina. And on Tuesday May 10th at Little Walnut Creek Library, 835 W. Rundberg Lane. All are from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
