JOHN VANDERSLICE

Singer and songwriter John Vanderslice comes from a very eclectic musical background to say the least. In various interviews, he has stated his influences as ranging from Neutral Milk Hotel to Public Enemy and he frequently includes the work of various poets in his songwriting. His eclectic tastes manifested themselves in both his work with experimental pop band Mk Ultra and in his own solo work, which is an alt/indie rock affair. He has released several albums, all of which have earned critical acclaim. John Vanderslice will join KUT at 9:00 AM Thursday the 17th at the Hilton.

PAPERCUTS

Jason Quever is Papercuts and Papercuts is Jason Quever. Though live and recorded Papercuts is a group of people, the only permanent member and primary creative force is Jason Quever. Quever started out as a producer and engineer for Cass McCombs before recording the first Papercuts album in 2004. Papercuts’ sound can be described as atmospheric indie pop, with heavy organs and light guitars. Each Papercuts album has been well received by critics and listeners alike, earning warm reviews from all fronts. Papercuts will join KUT at the Hilton at 9:45 AM on Thursday the 17th.

HAYES CARLL

A Texas native, Hayes Carll got his start playing in bars in Galveston and Crystal Beach. It was there that he honed his sound – which is rooted in the influence of artists such as Bob Dylan and Kris Kristofferson. His debut album Flowers and Liquor was released in 2002 to critical praise and comparisons to the likes of Townes Van Zandt. His brand of country/rock/folk has lead many to claim him as the return of the great Texas songwriter. Hayes Carll will be playing live at the Hilton as KUT’s guest on Thursday the 17th at 10:35 AM.
