Song of the Day

Sahara Smith: “Tin Man”

Last November, Austin’s Sahara Smith made her national TV debut on The Late Show With David Letterman. The performance capped off a tremendous year for the singer-songwriter–and it was just a preview for what’s surely to come.

Smith is only 21, but she has this national performance under her belt as well as a hit debut record produced by T-Bone Burnett. Myth Of The Heart was released late last summer, and it’s earned rave reviews both here in Austin and on the national scene. The record showcases Smith’s natural gifts as both a songwriter and a singer. Songs like “Are You Lonely” draw from both pop and country, but the uniting feature is Smith’s confident singing style. Burnett’s production highlights her nuanced phrasing, and the seasoned session players provide a perfect springboard for this young talent.

No word yet on a new album, but Smith will be performing a number of shows during South By Southwest. She stopped by our Studio 1A not too long ago, and today’s song of the day comes from that live session. Here’s “Tin Man,” by Sahara Smith.
