Texas House to Debate Voter ID Legislation
The Texas House is scheduled to debate the controversial Voter ID bill today. The bill would require all voters in Texas to show photo identification before casting a ballot at the polls.
According to the Associated Press, Republicans say that implementing the bill will prevent voter fraud. Democrats say that the bill would make voting difficult for minorities, the elderly and the poor because they’re less likely to have state-issued identification. The bill has already passed the Senate.
The Horns Fall to Arizona in NCAA Tournament
The number 4 seed Longhorns Men’s Basketball team is out of the NCAA tournament after last night’s game against the Arizona Wildcats. The Horns were down by as much as 13 points in the first half, but made a comeback as J’Covan Brown scored 21 of his 23 points in the second half. Arizona player Derrick Williams brought the Wildcats to a 70 to 69 lead to win the game with a three-point shot in the last 9.6 seconds. The Wildcats will move on to play Duke in the Sweet Sixteen on Thursday.
KVUE reports that an official from the game has released a statement regarding several controversial calls and no-calls in the last seconds of the match.
SWAT Called to North Austin Apartment
A SWAT team is responding to a 5:40 a.m. domestic disturbance call at a North Austin apartment complex. A man is still barricaded in his apartment and will not come out. The situation is ongoing.
