Japan’s Influence on the Texas Nuclear Energy Debate

Japan’s nuclear emergency got worse with a new explosion at a nuclear power plant Monday.  The hydrogen blast was similar to an explosion at a different unit in the same complex on Saturday.  KUT’s Ben Philpott looked at how the problems in Japan could influence the debate over nuclear energy in Texas.  That’s the top story on this morning’s podcast.

Resources for People Trying to Locate Friends, Family in Japan

Groups in Austin are trying to help the local Japanese community connect with loved ones overseas following Friday’s massive earthquake and tsunami.  The Japan-America Society of Greater Austin and the Central Texas Red Cross have posted many resources on their websites to help people find friends and family online.

Soco Parking Problems

The Austin City Council voted one week ago to extend parking meter hours across town, and until midnight in downtown Austin. That measure takes effect in August, but as Gretch Sanders reports some people are focused on parking problems further south, on South Congress.
