Leander City Manager Passes Away
Funeral arrangements are pending for Leander City Manager Anthony “Biff” Johnson. Officials say he died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon from apparent cardiac arrest. Johnson had served as Leander’s city manager since 2004.
Fort Hood Soldier Killed in Afghanistan
The Department of Defense released the name of a Central Texas soldier who was killed in Afghanistan. 33 year-old Staff Sergeant Mecolus McDaniel of Fort Hood died in combat on March 19. He joined the Army in 1996, and served previously in Korea and the Balkans. McDaniel was on his second deployment to Afghanistan.
AISD Budget Update
School districts across Texas are bracing themselves as the state prepares to slash the money it spends on public education. There are signs the initial cuts unveiled in January could be scaled back. But as KUT’s Nathan Bernier reports on today’s podcast, it’s still not enough to provide relief to the Austin Independent School District.
