On this edition of In Black America, producer/host John L. Hanson Jr. speaks with Christian hip-hop recording artist Christawn. Christawn is a THUG on a mission. A THUG. for him, is The Higher Understanding of God. This Hip Hopper has real talk street cred. In his past life, he ran the streets, sold crack, packed pistols and chased skirts.

The Cherry Hill (N.J.) High School West graduate grew up in the suburbs and earned a full basketball scholarship to the University of Bridgeport. He was raised in church. He knew better.

Now the hip-hop artist raps about that life a decade ago in the single “Save Me” from his debut CD, “Life Story.”
