Federal Funding Update

Dear KUT Listeners,
I am writing with a quick update on the federal funding status for public broadcasting.
We have some momentary good news regarding the status of federal funding for public broadcasting. You may recall that last week the US Congress approved a Continuing Resolution that would zero out funding for public broadcasting. This week public broadcasting received a temporary reprieve when
Congress passed, and President Obama signed, a two-week spending bill to prevent a government shutdown. We are pleased that this short-term measure does not cut funding for public broadcasting.
Congress will now regroup to vote on a longer-term Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government for the rest of FY 2011.We’re being told that the real negotiations for long-term funding are happening behind the scenes and it is likely that public broadcasting funding will be targeted for elimination.
Thank you again for your support of KUT. You can engage in the national conversation about federal funding by visiting 170 Million Americans for Public Broadcasting.
Regardless of what happens in Congress – the fundamental strength and independence of KUT and public broadcasting comes from broad based support within our community. Thank you for doing your part and being a leader among KUT supporters.
Best regards,
