Austin-based folk singer Danny Schmidt decided to simplify things a bit with his latest album Man of Many Moons, which he released last month.
There are guest appearances by artists like Will Sexton, Raina Rose, Ray Bonneville and Carrie Elkin, but for the most part, it’s Schmidt and his guitar. Yet, this acoustic style is not necessarily a quiet one. It speaks in volumes, thanks to Schmidt’s powerful, deeply personal songwriting, revealing his experiences and revelations with great intellect and wit. Schmidt’s motivation behind such a stark presentation is also simple: Keep it intimate. And he achieves just that.
Schmidt has a show Wednesday night at the Cactus Cafe, located at 24th and Guadalupe in the Texas Union on the UT campus. Opening the show is Carrie Elkin. The performance begins at 8:30 p.m. This will surely be a night of lovely music. Check it out.
