It’s been one week since the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The death toll stands in the thousands. There’s billions of dollars in damage. And then there are fears about what is next for a damaged nuclear plant.

Here in Austin, six bands from Japan take the stage tonight in the annual SXSW Japan Nite showcase. KUT’s Matt Largey sat down to talk with one of those groups, the members of the Tokyo-based duo “Oh Sunshine”, about what has been happening back home.

Emily Connor and Mikio Hirama together make up “Oh Sunshine“. The band is performing tonight as part of the Japan Nite showcase at South by Southwest. They’ll be raising money for Japanese relief efforts.
