Song of the Day – Alex Ebert: “Let’s Win”

Best known as the front man for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, singer-songwriter, Alex Ebert, has spent some time paying attention to himself. In a recent article with the Los Angeles Times, Ebert expressed that his decision to isolate himself post a rigorous Magnetic Zeros’ tour schedule was due to “a drive to learn and grow.” The result, Ebert’s first full-length solo project, Alexander.

Playing and recording everything on the album, from the guitar to the kazoo – not a single hand clap is not one of his own -  Ebert spent time teaching himself how to play the instruments he wasn’t already familiar with.  And for this reason, his labor of love is the most personal record I have heard in a long time. Folksy and dreamy, much like the sounds he heads up with the Magnetic Zeros, the record seems a bit more stripped down leaving one to connect to the lyrics – honest and beautifully raw- Ebert seems to whispers at times.

Today’s Song of the Day is Let’s Win off the new release.

Alexander dropped on March 1, 2011 via Vagrant.
