89.3 The Current and KUT 90.5 Sample the Twin Cities and Austin Music Scenes with “The Music Exchange” March 21–25
Fresh off the heels of SXSW, audiences in the Twin Cities and Austin will get a taste of the other's local music scene
ST. PAUL, Minn.—March 11, 2011—89.3 The Current in the Twin Cities and KUT 90.5 in Austin will exchange songs from their respective musical hotbeds in “The Music Exchange,” an effort to cross-pollinate music scenes in America.
KUT’s Texas Music Matters’ David Brown and 89.3 The Current’s Mark Wheat will share new music and commentary – on air and online – during a 10 minute segment that will air weekdays (2 p.m. in Austin and 6 p.m. in the Twin Cities) March 21 – 25, following the SXSW Music Festival.
“We are thrilled to partner with KUT and offer our listeners access to some of the hottest acts to come out of Austin, as well as continue our efforts to spread MN music out to the world” said Jim McGuinn, program director for The Current. “Anytime we can partner with another radio station and music hotbed that supports and understands the importance of local music, it is a huge win.”
“Public radio’s getting a lot of recognition as a terrific platform for new music, and I think experiments like ‘The Music Exchange’ are part of that evolution. It’s thrilling to imagine someone in the Twin Cities getting turned on to new Austin music,” said David Brown host and producer of Texas Music Matters on KUT 90.5. “And since The Current has its finger on the pulse of its own storied music scene, I think KUT listeners are in for a real treat, too,”
