Time and again, folks who know that I, your Austin Music Minute maven Laurie Gallardo, have a weakness for classic country sounds, also know I’ve given frequent shout-outs to Austin band Mike and The Moonpies. I’ve enthusiastically shared tracks from their EPs, Lyin’ (2008) and one of my faves Catalina (2009), and their full-length, The Real Country (2010). They specialize in some delectable roots music that puts a pang in the hearts of those of us who prefer their country old school. Moonpies frontman Mike Harmeier has a twang that’s perfect for any honky-tonk, but these guys are just as much at home at any indie venue, too.

This time, Mike the boys have a gig Wednesday night at the Frank Rec Room, a shindig at Frank (4th and Colorado), presented by local music supporter and man about town Adi Anand and his fabulous series, From the Mind of Adi on Transmission Entertainment. This is a fun night with just about everything – cult classic TV show screenings, all manner of board games, and of course, live music from Mike and The Moonpies, and Austin band Radar Radar. Everything gets underway at 9 p.m. Recommended.
