A South First Treasure: End of An Ear

February 17, 2011 5:23 pm by: Angela Maldonado

When you’re at End of An Ear you get the sense you’re in a secret chamber at the heart of Austin. End of an Ear used to be an artist’s studio before Dan Plunkett and Blake Carlisle opened the store in 2005, and still carries that bohemian soul in everything from the ceramic floor to the tin ceiling.

Austin Powell of the Austin Chronicle said, “…the South First shop is hard to beat here or elsewhere. They definitely get a small chunk of my paycheck.”

The name of the shop comes from Robert Wyatt’s first solo album; both Plunkett and Carlisle are huge fans, and similar to Wyatt’s iconic genre-bending style, End of An Ear is a place where you can find any album under the sun…as long as it’s cool.
