The 2011 Speaker’s (Non)Race?

There's a little more than a month to go before the start of the 2011 Texas Legislative session. The wrangling behind the scenes, anyway, has so far focused on who will be elected Speaker of the House come January 11th.

Current Speaker Joe Straus (R-San Antonio) is the odds-on favorite for re-election at the moment. Rep. Warren Chisum (R-Pampa) and Rep. Ken Paxton (R-McKinney) have both declared their candidacy. Paxton has attracted a handful of commitments, though Straus still has about 120.
