Steve Forbert-Live August 7, 2010
A prolific songwriter with a strong and steady output since his 1978 debut, Steve Forbert combines a traditional folk sensibility with a meticulous and perceptive lyrical approach. His most recent creative burst was inspired by a song that is 30 years old. “The Oil Song,” first written in 1977, touched upon devastating spills from that era. But since the relevant subject matter is particularly topical, Forbert revisited the song only to extend it into a 13-minute opus.
The Oil Song 2010 EP features the updated version of the track along with live and unreleased recordings. Steve Forbert performed in Studio 1A during Folkways with Kevin Connor.
