The City of Austin is tightening occupancy rates for duplexes and two family residential units. Austin’s Engagement Consultant, Larry Schooler, said that this is generating some buzz. “It’s about clarification and square footage,” Schooler told KUT’s Emily Donahue. The City’s effort to relax density restrictions is prompting neighborhoods to comment that they’re seeing many properties inhabited by more people than ever before.

A public hearing will be held at the September 23rd council meeting. Meantime, background can be found at Austin’s city website. Give a listen to Larry and Emily’s conversation too.
