Twenty-two years ago, long before the term “viral video” was coined, a man named Jack Rebney had a very bad day that was captured on film. On that day, Mr. Rebney attempted to film a commercial for the 1989 line of Winnebagos, only to fall victim to frustration and increasing anger. For years, VHS copies of those commercial outtakes were traded and cherished by fascinated fans. When the video found its way onto youtube five years ago, its fame exploded, and Jack Rebney became an internet phenomenon.
That’s when Austin filmmaker Ben Steinbauer went in search of Jack Rebney. That search resulted in the new documentary Winnebago Man, which is coming to the Alamo Drafthouse Theater after a successful tour of the festival circuit.

The movie will play at the South Lamar location Friday 8/20 and Saturday 8/21 with director Ben Steinbauer live in person and star Jack Rebney live via speakerphone.

On Sunday 8/22, “Winnebago Man” Will move uptown to the Alamo Ritz , where it’ll run through Thursday.
