John Pierson is an indie film guru, an author, a UT professor who dresses worse than Hawk Mendenhall and he’s our friend. His Master Class series here at UT has enjoyed visits from Spike Lee, Mike Judge, Matt Stone, Gus Van Sant and on and on and on over the years, and many of those visits have found their way onto KUT. Starting on this weekend’s O’Dark, the Master Class is back with a four week run and we’re gonna kick it off with Spike Jonze. He’s directed memorable skate and music videos, outrageous Jackass stunts, iconoclastic ads, and the three classic films Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and Where The Wild Things Are but it was a short film with Arcade Fire that brought Spike Jonze to Austin and into John Pierson’s UT Master Class back in April.

Dirty word alert: There’s only one dirty word in this interview, but they say it twice. You’ve been warned.
