SXSW 2010: Dawes @ The Hilton

March 21, 2010 4:12 pm by: Peter Babb

For the first time, KUT will be presenting a great lineup of live shows in the Hilton lobby (the Hilton is directly across 4th street from the Austin Convention Center, home of SXSW) each morning of SXSW music. These shows are free and open to the public.

What better way to shake out those second day SXSW cobwebs with a delightfully mellow set from Dawes. The California based group blends folksy harmonies with simple instrumentation to create a warm, homey, sound that is incredibly soothing for nerves frayed by hours of relentless rock n’ roll. Dawes’ debut album Northern Hill was recorded in a studio in California’s famous Laurel Canyon and seems to follow in the footseps laid down by Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. So do your self a favor by closing you eyes, kicking off your shoes, and settling into Dawes’ fantastic set at the Austin Hilton.
