The traditional yuletide play La Pastorela has a long and rich history in the Native American and Latino culture. For hundreds of years, towns and communities have performed their own version of the play, tailored to their environment. In Austin, a dedicated group of artists has been staging an ever-evolving version of the play since 1997.
La Pastorela is almost like three plays in one; there are multiple sets, musical numbers and a large cast, so it can be a daunting task for a director. Nevertheless, this year’s first-time director, Deanna Deolloz was up to the challenge.

La Pastorela
