This Friday night at the Cactus Cafe, fans of both ancient military history and pop music will find common ground at the rock opera “Athens v Sparta: The History of the Pelopennesian War.”

Musician Charlie Roadman had the idea for the opera years ago, when he was assigned to study Thucydides as an undergrad. He started with one song, and eventually the project grew into an album-length rock opera chronicling the entire war.

This weekend, as part of the Texas Classical Association annual meeting, Charlie and his band will be performing “The History of the Pelopennesian War” live a the Cactus Cafe, and Charlie himself will be giving a talk on the subject to Association members.
