Adventures in ACL: The Wet, the Dry, and the Goofy
The KUT peeps have got it together here at the ACL Fest. We have a crew that’s kicking major booty, most impressively so, from outstanding onsite coverage to interviews and everything in between.
All of this, of course, means that I find a smidge of extra time on my hands to get into trouble. Hmm. What to do? I know. I’ll use my puny cel phone camera. It’s definitely a conversation starter because…well…it is, by nomeans, an impressive bit of equipment. It’s a cheesy little cel phone, nothing fancy or iPhone-like about it. Not even a flash for the camera. But oh, what fun I have.
For example: Blitzen Trapper stopped by for a chat with David Brown on Friday, and they were awfully good sports about me hovering around with my joke of a cel phone. I even got a killer (acoustic) guitar pose. Thanks, gents. I know I’m annoying but I’m actually relatively sane.
Today, Saturday, is a bit damp with more rain showers are on the way, but that doesn’t stop the KUT crew from takin’ care of bidness. And there I am, getting in Andy Uhler’s face as he chatted with executive chef extraordinaire Tim Love (he’s been preparing delicious food for all the bands), getting in Kevin Conner’s way as he interviewed Matt Morris, and pretty much knocking Matt Reilly over as he sat to talk with Conrad Keely of Trail of Dead, and John Vanderslice – thank you, John, for being so lovely, even though I was practically shoving a phone in your face.
More adventures are ahead, kids. I’ll have my trusty cel phone on hand. Never mind that I look like a goof having a major dork-a-thon. I’m kind of used to that, with or without my phone.
