Jason Mraz Plays Tonight at the Frank Irwin Center
Initially, Jason Mraz was determined to take a year off of recording and touring. He needed to wind down, so gardening, hanging out with the cat and doing (ugh) laundry sounded like a great time to him. However, any singer-songwriter of his caliber can’t stay away for too long – especially if an overwhelming realization thunks you on the head and compells you to write about it.
Just a few months into his vacation, Mraz felt a flood of songs pouring forth that he wasn’t even planning on. It was great – albeit a little alarming, but ultimately a pivotal time of self-discovery. These were the thoughts and emotions poured into We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.
“I was happy to be able to write an album at the same time I was coming back to earth,” Mraz says about his 2008 release. “What I love about mankind is that yes, we sing, and we celebrate, and we dance when we’re foolish, and we steal things. It’s hard to have a new idea in music, in fashion, the land we walk on. It’s all recycled. I think to say we stole it is a lot more fun.”
Mraz has a performance scheduled for tonight at The Theater at the Frank Irwin Center, 1707 Red River. Bushwalla and G. Love & Special Sauce will begin the evening, around 7:30 p.m.
By the way, if you can, check out Mraz’s official website, and leave the voice on. Frrreaky but funny.
