Band of Heathens CD Release Show Saturday at Antone’s
The members of The Band of Heathens were playing in other bands when they first met in 2006. Colin Brooks, Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist were all on the same bill one evening at a Momo’s Club weekly gig, each performing as a solo artist. Eventually, they began collaborating on new music projects and started sharing the stage, and soon bassist Seth Whitney and drummer John Chipman were on board. They hadn’t really thought of a name for their new group until they got word of a misprint in a local paper that referred to them as The Heathens. Who on earth can resist such a delightfully irreverent moniker? It was a done deal.
After two live CDs and one studio album, the band is set for their fourth release, One Foot in the Ether, a slight departure from their earlier acoustic playing style toward heavier guitar and pounding piano and organ – straight up rock ‘n’ roll with a twist of Americana.
The Band of Heathens are having a shindig to celebrate the new CD this Saturday night at Antone’s, 213 W. 5th St. Starting out the evening is a set by Drew Smith’s Lonely Choir. Everything gets going around 10 in the p.m. Check it out.
