Song of the Day

Pyeng Threadgill: “Phonograph Blues”

August 17, 2009 5:00 am by: Andrew Uhler

Pyeng Threadgill was born into an artistic family on the Lower East Side of New York in the 1970′s and after high school, she found herself at Oberlin Conservatory to study classical music.

Her style is hard to define, but her wonderful ear for composition and smooth voice are equally hard to deny. She’s set to release her third studio album, Portholes To A Love & Other Short Stories later this year.

Today’s song of the day is a tune Threadgill recorded in KUT’s Studio 1A. It’s a song from an album she composed as a tribute to the songs of Robert Johnson. This song is called “Phonograph Blues.”
