Jim Keaveny CD Release Show Tonight at Hole in the Wall

August 10, 2009 6:00 am by: Laurie Gallardo

Originally from Bismark, North Dakota, Jim Keaveny learned to play piano as a kid. When he got older, he decided to travel instead of attending college, hitchhiking and jumping on freight trains across the country, learning to write songs and play guitar. It made a huge impact. Travelling is how he discovered the spirit at the heart of great music.

After working all sorts of jobs and a short stint with a band in Eugene, OR, Keavney made his way to Austin in 1996. He played with a handful of bands before going solo in ’98, and released his first album, These Old Things, in 2000. Five years and two more albums later, he was recognized as a “New Folk Finalist” at the Kerrville Folk Festival.

Critics have compared Keavney’s sound to Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and Steve Earle. Like these artists before him, Keavner gives voice to that overwhelming desire for being on the road and experiencing life.

Keavney’s new album is Music Man, and he’s got a CD release show planned for tonight at the Hole In the Wall, 2538 Guadalupe. Starting out the night will be performances by Austin bands Chadd Thomas & The Crazy Kings, and Darren Hoff & The Hard Times.

Crazy hard fun with Keaveny at the helm – check it out. Things get underway around 10 p.m.
