The Pons Play Tonight at The Parish
The Pons used to be known as Lalaland – a place that, admittedly, we’ve all visited from time to time in some form of loopy disconnect. The band was an electro-pop two-piece, but the evolution of their music into an edgier, indie-rock/folk vein brought about several changes – including their name.
As the band (now a trio) scribbled out name ideas, they came across a possible album title when they read about the medulla oblongata. That in itself sounded cool and brainy. Upon further examination, they read about the pons, a structure on the brain stem that relays sensory information between the cerebellum and cerebrum, controls arousal and regulates respiration. Fabulous! But it got more fascinating when they learned that, in some theories, the pons has a role in dreaming. Voila.
The Pons are headlining a show tonight at The Parish, 214 E. 6th St. The line-up for the night is chock full of tasty pop-rock goodies, brought to you by Built By Snow, Candi and The Strangers, and a highly-anticipated CD release set by The Mercers, who were recently featured in a live performance in KUT’s Studio 1A.
Sound good? Well, it IS! Doors open at 8 p.m. Check it out.
