The Black Hollies Play This Sunday Night at Beerland

July 10, 2009 6:00 am by: Laurie Gallardo

The Black Hollies could’ve taken the easy route and planted themselves into one genre with their impressive 2005 debut, Crimson Reflections, a massive blend of ’60s Brit Invasion rock/pop and soul. But they wanted to take it further. So they did. Their 2008 follow-up, Casting Shadows, was an even bigger knockout with more rock and psychedelia in the recipe.

The quartet, fronted by vocalist and bassist Justin Angelo Morey, also has a reputation for outstanding live performances, thanks mostly to a rigorous practice schedule that keeps them sounding tighter and playing sharper. It must be seen to be believed. Catch them in a great triple bill with local openers Dikes of Holland and The Ugly Beats, at their show this Sunday night at Beerland, 711 Red River St. Get there around 10 p.m. You will not regret it.
