stellastarr Plays Tonight at The Parish
Vocalist/guitarist Shawn Christensen, bassist/vocalist Amanda Tannen and drummer Arthur Kremer first met at Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute of the Arts in the late 90′s, and they weren’t even sure which direction to go with their musical ideas. It was an experimental period, but things solidified when former Charlotte’s Funeral guitarist Michael Jurin entered the picture. NYC-based quartet stellastarr began playing the club circuit about 9 years ago and released a five-song demo EP, Fool out of Cancer, to get more gigs.
The band’s trademark darker sounds embrace early punk and new wave influences. They were the first unsigned band to perform on Last Call With Carson Daly in 2003, which drew more attention from media and fans to their self-titled full-length album. More of the same rave reviews came for their second album, Harmonies for the Haunted, and continue with their newest, Civilized.
Their current tour brings them to Austin for a show tonight at The Parish, 214 E. 6th St. The line-up includes performances by New Hampshire indie rock band Wild Light and Austin shoegazers Experimental Aircraft. Doors open at 8 p.m.
This is the perfect way to start the week off. Check it all out.
