Spoon Plays Thursday, Friday, Saturday at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater
Got Nuffin is the sixth EP that Spoon has released in it’s 16 years as a band – and it’s twelfth recording, if you count their six full-length albums. This new three-track collection, announced to the public a mere week before it came out, is also the first newly recorded material since Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (2007), and looks as though it’s little treat to tide fans over while the band spends the remainder of the summer working on their next full-length.
This EP moves into a slightly darker side. The title track is especially fueled with pumping drums and bass, fuzzed up guitar, and an angst in vocalist’s Britt Daniel’s bristling tone that seals the deal, making sure you understand he’s got “nothing to lose but darkness and shadows…”
So, before the guys immerse themselves in their new material and hide in the studio from the light of day to finish their upcoming album, now is your chance to catch them live. You have three chances, really – Spoon is playing Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater, 801 Red River St. The gates open at 6 p.m. on Thursday, and 7 p.m. the next two nights.
Thursday’s performance will feature openers Quasi and Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears, followed by an aftershow with The Low Lows in Stubb’s indoor venue. Friday, the one and only Dale Watson will start the night out, and Friday’s aftershow features Nakia and his Southern Cousins. Atlas Sound and The Strange Boys will open Saturday’s show, followed by The Black doing the aftershow inside.
Whew! Lots of music here, peeps. Pick your night and enjoy.
