Lukas Nelson and The Promise of the Real Play Tonight at Stubb’s Indoor Venue
Lukas Nelson, son of legendary country artist Willie Nelson, has had some extaordinary experiences as a musician. He’s had the opportunity to play with artists like Bob Dylan and Neil Young. But he was really in search of something that could define his own style.
Inspired by soul and psychedelia, Lukas formed his band The Promise of the Real. Each member of this quintet, including brother Micah Nelson, comes from very diverse musical backgrounds, including jazz, rock, Afro-Cuban and South American music, but their combined experience creates an atmosphere that’s open to the most fluid improvisational performances. Their free-form playing is especially strong on their first release, the EP Brando’s Paradise Sessions.
The band has a performance scheduled for tonight at Stubb’s indoor venue, 801 Red River. Doors open at 10 p.m., and you can get in free with your handy-dandy Snoop Dogg ticket stub after the Dogg’s show in the Waller Creek Amphitheater. Talk about varied musical selections. This is a good thing. Enjoy.
