IN THE NEWS:

Adam Yauch of The Beastie Boys has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland. The tumor was caught early and is expected to be treatable with surgery and several weeks of additional treatment. The Beastie Boys have cancelled their upcoming tour, including their appearance at this year’s ACL Festival. The release of their new album, Hot Sauce Committee Part 1, has also been delayed.

LOCAL SHOWS:

Little Elmore Reed Blues Band plays every Monday at TC’s Lounge - the show starts at 7pm.

TODAY IN MUSIC HISTORY:

1940 – Billboard magazine published its first listing of best-selling singles – 10 songs were on the list.

1974 – Joey Ramone became the lead vocalist for the Ramones.
