Scott Miller Solo Show Thursday at Cactus Cafe
More often than not, you’ll find Scott Miller on tour. This is usually with the entire band, so it’s Scott Miller and The Commonwealth on the marquee. But the folk-rock artist has a solo album out, For Crying Out Loud, so this time around he’s got some solo gigs on the road.
Miller, founder of roots-rock band The V-Roys, has recorded albums as a solo artist before on the Sugar Hill label, between 2001 and 2008. The current album was released independently. He strikes a chord with music that’s brusque in attitude but melodic in style – Americana meets garage rock, and that defiant voice that’s self-aware and not backing down. But it’s not all roughness. Miller reveals a softer side to his songwriting with his ballad “I’m Right Here, My Love,” which he sings with Patty Griffin.
Miller has a show this Thursday night at the Cactus Cafe, 2247 Guadalupe (24th & Guadalupe), in the Texas Union on the UT campus. Swing by before 8:30 p.m. and get a good seat. Recommended.
