Sarah Jarosz CD Release Show Tonight at Cactus Cafe

June 10, 2009 6:00 am by: Laurie Gallardo

Sarah Jarosz does it all. Period.

Jarosz grew up in a musical family, and was always encouraged to pursue her interests. Since the age of 10, she’s been playing mandolin, guitar, clawhammer banjo, a bit of piano, and on top of all of this talent, she’s a singer. She began writing her own songs at age 12.

One of the major turning points in her life was when she met Chris Thile, mandolinist and vocalist for Nickel Creek, and now one of her greatest mentors, at the Old Settler’s Music Festival. He gave her an autograph that read, “Let’s jam sometime.” Bingo. From that moment on, Jarosz was determined to become a great musician so she could jam with the best of them.

Her upcoming debut CD is Song Up In Her Head, on the Sugar Hill label. The music is a combination of traditional bluegrass and folk with modern acoustic playing, and Jarosz’s ethereal vocals.

Jarosz has a CD release show at 8 p.m. tonight at the Cactus Cafe, 2247 Guadalupe, at 24th and Guadalupe on the UT campus. Come on out and prepare to be blown away by this stunning young artist.
