May 5, 2009 3:11 pm by: KUT Staff

Texas announced a second death attributed to swine flu May 5.

State health officials identify the victim as a woman from Cameron County. There’s no word on how the woman came into contact with the illness, but officials add the woman suffered other chronic illnesses.

A 23-month-old boy from Mexico died from swine flu on April 28.

Meanwhile, officials say a flu test on a University of Texas student has returned as a probable case of swine flu.

An e-mail sent to U-T Austin students, staff and faculty says the student was tested April 28 and immediately treated. That student has since recovered, but the test sample is being sent to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention to determine whether or not the student had swine flu.
