Song of the Day

Madeleine Peyroux: “You Can’t Do Me”

Madeleine Peyroux has a distinct vocal style often compared to that of Billie Holiday. Peyroux spent her early childhood in New York and then southern California, but when her parents divorced, she moved to France with her mother and began busking in Paris’ Latin Quarter.

Critics have lauded Peyroux for her song choice; she seemingly always selects standard and modern tunes that pair perfectly with her vocal stylings. But on her latest album, Bare Bones, Peyroux delves into songwriting and a groovier soul-rock feel.

Today’s song of the day is a tune Peyroux recorded live at KUT last month.

It’s called “You Can’t Do Me.”
