Austin Music Minute

Grounded in Music Benefit Sunday at Scoot Inn

Cutbacks in music programs continue to occur in public schools across the country, and of course, Texas schools are no exception. Keeping in mind that Austin is the “live music capital of the world,” a non-profit organization called Grounded in Music formed in the summer of 2007.

It’s primary goal is to inspire children to pursue music, and it soon became established as the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Capital Area’s East location signature program. Talented musicians participate in the program as teachers and mentors, instructing their students in everything from a variety of musical instruments to songwriting. The Philadelphia Boys and Girls Club Bridesberg Unit adapted the Grounded in Music program in the summer of 2008.

As with any nonprofit, fundraisers play a huge role in the success of such a great program. That’s where this weekend’s event comes in. There’s a great line-up for the Grounded in Music benefit performance, beginning at 4 p.m. this Sunday at the Scoot Inn, 1308 E. 4th St.

They’ll be performances by Latino hip-hop group Los Bad Apples, funkified experimental quintet Muchos Backflips, singer-songwriter extraordinaire Dana Falconberry, 8-piece ensemble The Tiny Tin Hearts, Grounded in Music students, and other special guests.

A great – and musical – way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Check it out and show your support.
