Private Schools Close on Swine Flu Concerns

Students from Central Austin’s Kirby Hall School recently went on a cruise to Mexico.

“We did have a class that took a cruise to Mexico on their year-end trip. And they’re now back,” said Helen Roberts, administrative assistant at Kirby Hall School

Four students and three adults went on that trip. Neither they nor any other students at the school have any flu-like symptoms, but she says school administrators wanted to be cautious. The 150-student school in Central Austin will be closed tomorrow for cleaning before a planned three-day weekend.

“Every parent that I’ve spoke to has been very supportive of us. We did have a couple thatthat were thinking a little bit that we were going overboard with this,” Roberts said.

The school is scheduled to reopen for a normal school day May 4.
