Austin Voter Turnout: A Closer Look

Austin's low voter turnout - about eight to 12 percent in city elections -masks the fact that some neighborhoods do turn out in full force to vote.

And other neighborhoods stay home on Election Day. City of Austin Demographer Ryan Robinson says there are active and passive zip codes when it comes to voter turnout. KUT continues to focus on questions raised by the May, 2009 elections taking place at one of the most challenging points in Austin’s history: from the budget effects of the worldwide recession to rapid population growth.
