Mexico Boosts Tariffs

March 16, 2009 5:14 pm by: KUT Staff

The decision is a response to a U.S. Senate decision two weeks ago to drop funding for a pilot program allowing Mexican trucks to drive deeper into the United States.

American officials claim the tariff increase violates the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Mexican officials say it could mean two-point-four billion dollars in lost trade for 40 U.S. states. But they haven’t announced which products will be subject to the higher tariffs.
