Hold the Train…Again

March 20, 2009 2:33 pm by: KUT Staff

In another sign that something may seriously be wrong with Capital Metro’s commuter rail launch, the agency’s President announced March 20 that it had received notice from the Federal Railroad Administration and the Texas Department of Transportation of new alleged violations against its rail contractor, Veolia Transportation.

Cap Metro is asking Veolia to replace its safety director and has cancelled an opening ceremony set for March 28. The agency is also asking for guidance on startup and safety from the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority, which runs Boston’s public rail system.

The transit agency has announced multiple delays with the commuter rail launch. The most recent date was late April. Now it appears to be pushed back at least through mid-May.
