Colin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore Play Wednesday at Threadgill’s North

It must be awesome to have a dad like Jimmie Dale Gilmore. You’ll get no arguement from Colin Gilmore about that, but he makes a very important point: There’s no riding on the coattails. You make your own music that makes you stand out.

That’s exactly what Colin does – music that takes inspiration from all his influences, from the roots and country music he grew up with, to the rougher edges of punk and rock ‘n’ roll. “Fans won’t stick around for music that doesn’t speak to them,” Colin explains. “You have to earn it every day.”

But one could also say that Colin is following in his dad’s footsteps. Jimmie Dale Gilmore once said that he himself never fit into any specific musical categories. He makes music that embraces it all. Like father, like son.

You can see the Gilmores at their show at 10 p.m. this Wednesday night at Threadgill’s north location, 6416 N. Lamar. Check the website for ticket information.
