Capitol 10K Street Closures Sunday

More than 15 thousand runners will pound the pavement Sunday, March 29 for the 32nd annual Statesman Capitol 10K. The race beings on the South Congress Bridge at 8:30 a.m.

That means you should be prepared to take an alternate route downtown if you are in the area.

  • Congress Avenue, starting at Barton Springs and toward the Capitol will be closed at 4:00 a.m. until the the race crowd passes approximately 9:45 a.m.
  • Cesar Chavez will be closed at 8:00 a.m. and reopens at 12:00 p.m.
  • Access to Fifth and Sixth streets will be closed from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
  • Fifteenth Street will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The 10K course runs north up Congress Ave. to the Capitol, west on 15 St., south on Winstead Lane (alongside Mopac), turns east up Cesar Chavez , then south across the 1st St. Bridge and north to the finish on West Riverside Drive at Auditorium Shores.

The Texas Department of Transportation parking lots off of Riverside Drive (118, 150 & 200 E. Riverside Dr.) have limited free parking. Also the One Texas Center parking garage on S. 1st St. and Barton Springs and the Palmer Events Center parking garage are available on race morning. The fee is $7 to park.
