Every year in mid-March Austin welcomes a group of dark visitors. They're garbed in black, and come out only at night.
They’re not the thousands who swoop into town for South by Southwest, but rather the millions of Mexican free-tailed bats that make their home under the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge. Austinite J. Jaye Smith has written a book to educate kids about Austin’s bats. She spoke with KUT’s Julie Moody.
