Austin Politics 2009
There are elections for mayor and four other seats on the City Council. KUT will focus on the questions and issues raised by an election taking place in one of the most challenging points in Austin history: from the budget effects of the worldwide recession to rapid population growth. Peck Young is Director of the Center for Public Policy and Political Studies at Austin Community College. He says Austin’s low voter turnout – between eight and 12 percent of registered voters – is a puzzle, with at least one explanation.
