Austin Energy Game
Austin Energy launched an interactive game March 30th designed to seek input from customers on the types of energy the utility should be using by 2020. “Change Your Generation” lets customers pick from several different generation options. Spokesman Carlos Cordova.
“This game enables residents to go online and select what they think our generation mix should be. But it also puts it in the context of Austin Energy and the City of Austin’s goals,” Cordova said.
That goal is to be “carbon-neutral” by 2020. Cordova said the City of Austin hopes to have 30 percent of its energy come from renewable sources by that time. That would go on top of 100 megawatts of solar power Austin Energy wants to be generating in the next 11 years. The game is looking for public input, but the city also has its own goals for where energy will come from in the next decade.
“We will make these suggestions to Austin City Council. City Council is the board of directors and so it sets the policy for the city and we carry it out,” Cordova said.
Austin Energy will be taking input through the Generation Game into the early fall. Click here to participate.
